Gift of Literacy Luncheon to Feature Lisa See
Newport/Mesa ProLiteracy will be presenting the tenth annual Gift of Literacy Author Luncheon on Friday, April 21 at 11 a.m. at the Radisson Hotel Newport Beach, 4545 MacArthur Boulevard, Newport Beach.
The luncheon will feature guest speaker, author Lisa See, who will talk about her newest release “The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane.” See, who is the author of New York Times bestsellers, “Snow Flower and the Secret Fan,” “Peony in Love” “Shanghai Girls” and “Dreams of Joy,” is known for immersing her readers in captivating tales, rich in Chinese history and intricate relationships between women.
Her newest novel explores the lives of a Chinese mother and her daughter who has been adopted by an American couple. A powerful story about a family, separated by circumstances, culture, and distance, “The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane” paints an unforgettable portrait of a little known region and its people and celebrates the bond that connects mothers and daughters.
Tickets for the luncheon are available online at www.newportliteracy.org. Newport/Mesa ProLiteracy is also accepting sponsorships for the event. Tickets are $95 per person and include a signed hardcopy edition of “The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane.” For tickets, sponsorship or more information, call Literacy Services at the Newport Beach Public Library, 949-717-3874.
Proceeds from the event will help fund the Newport Beach Public Library Literacy Services (Newport/Mesa ProLiteracy) program which serves over 200 adult learners annually with free literacy instruction, including one-on-one tutoring, small group classes and specialized workshops designed to develop the literacy skills of adults and empower them to achieve greater success in their lives – at home, at work, and in the community.
