Post Date:03/20/2017 4:41 p.m.

Newport Beach CERT Volunteers,

It is with great sadness that we are writing you all today to report the unexpected passing of Newport Beach CERT volunteer Marilyn Broughton this weekend.  Marilyn and her sister Evalie were affectingly known as "the twins" with CERT volunteers, city staff and the Newport Beach community (even though they were actually triplets with sister Ardith, also a CERT volunteer).  Marilyn donated over 10,000 volunteer hours over the past several years assisting with the CERT program, disaster preparedness outreach and teaching American Red Cross CPR/AED/ First Aid classes to both the community and city employees.  Marilyn was always giving back to the Newport Beach community and was dedicated to teaching others CPR and first aid so that they could help others.  She will be greatly missed by her family, her extended CERT family and all personnel of the Newport Beach Fire Department.  In honor of Marilyn and all of her accomplishments, her family will be holding a Celebration of Life in her honor.  All Newport Beach CERT volunteers are welcome and encouraged to attend and per the request of the family to wear their CERT green vests .  The information on the event is listed below:
