Members and Donors Enable Library Foundation to Make $155,000+ Donation to Library

NEWPORT BEACH, CA September 4, 2017 – The Newport Beach Public Library Foundation (Library Foundation) donates $155,025 to the Newport Beach Public Library to fund critical improvements and resources for the community to enjoy.  This donation, made possible by the Foundation’s members and donors, will finance ten important improvements that the library needs at this time.

“We are very grateful for the Foundation’s generous donation as it enables us to make improvements to the library that will truly benefit the more than one million customers that we serve annually,” says Tim Hetherton, Library Director.  “The Foundation plays a vital role in helping us deliver on our mission to be the cultural, educational and informational heart of Newport Beach.”

With the money, the library will make physical improvements to the Central Library as well as Mariners and Balboa Branches, secure the eBook platform licenses to provide customers with continued free eBook downloads, purchase a wayfinding kiosk and informative signage, complete the digitization of all past issues of the Daily Pilot, continue providing free remote access to lynda.com, add Early Learning Literacy stations at the Balboa Branch and Central Library, and support Literacy Services for adult residents.

“Thanks to our members and donors we are able to deliver cutting-edge resources to the library…enhancements that serve and benefit our local community,” says Tracy Keys, Executive Director of the Library Foundation.  “We are so grateful for their support in keeping the Newport Beach Public Library exceptional.”

The Library Foundation is a membership-driven organization that receives no government funding and relies solely on tax-deductible donations to fulfill its mission. In addition to supporting the library, it hosts popular educational and cultural programs – such as ‘Library Live’, ‘Witte Lectures’, ‘Medicine in Our Backyard’, and ‘Making Memories for Children’. Keys noted, “these invaluable programs would not happen without the generous support of our members and sponsors.”  Members of the Library Foundation receive a variety of benefits such as advance notice about programs, the quarterly Bookmark  publication, discounted or free tickets to programs, discounts at local merchants and more!
