Dan Matusiewicz became the finance director in September 2012, having previously served the City of Newport Beach in various capacities of the Finance Department since January 1992. As the finance director, Dan oversees the City’s $260-million annual budget and its $200-million investment portfolio.
Throughout his tenure, he has concentrated on providing prudent financial services that are critical to the City’s financial stability. This has been key in the City’s ability to consistently deliver the highest-quality municipal services to the community. His department provides a wide variety of financial, technical and support functions which include treasury, accounting, budgeting, long-term financial planning, auditing and revenue administration.
Dan has more than 25 years of experience in municipal finance and accounting. He started his career in public accounting by auditing local governments throughout California before accepting a position at the City. He is frequently requested to speak at local government finance seminars and is a frequent contributor to the California Society of Municipal Finance Officers Magazine.
Dan is a graduate of the Leavey Business School at Santa Clara University. He is happily married with two children and lives in Newport Beach.
