We hope that you are enjoying the last few weeks of summer. The end of summer marks the beginning of the city's fall community preparedness outreach efforts. September is National Preparedness Month and is one of the busiest months for community preparedness. Listed below are some of the upcoming events and trainings for CERT volunteers.
Community Preparedness Committee
The Fire department is excited to announce the creation of a new Community Preparedness Committee. Lead by CERT Board members Marilyn Broughton and Evalie DuMars, the Community Preparedness Committee is for any CERT volunteer that is interested in assisting at any event, training or drill throughout the year. If you are interested in helping out at a community outreach event, assisting at CERT classes, or teaching/assisting at CPR classes then this is the committee for you. The committee is open to all Newport Beach CERT volunteers interested in participating in community outreach. Even if you only want to volunteer to assist at a few events each year, then this is the committee for you.

CERT "All Hands" Meeting- Tuesday, September 13th
The Fire Department will host the quarterly CERT "All Hands" meeting on Tuesday, September13th at 6:30 pm at the Newport Beach Central library Friends Room. The meeting will have city and community preparedness updates. It will also feature a presentation from Sean Ward from the American Red Cross on how they operate and interact with the city. The meeting is open to all CERT volunteers and any community members interested in disaster preparedness. Registration is not required for this meeting.
8th Annual Disaster Preparedness Expo- Saturday, September 10
This year, the Fire Department and the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce are partnering to host the Green on Green and Disaster Preparedness Expo on the Civic Center green on Saturday, September 10 from 10:00 am-3:00 pm. The disaster preparedness expo is one of the biggest CERT events of the year and takes a lot of volunteers to happen. We are looking for CERT volunteers to work the expo from 9:00 am-4:00 pm and have two volunteer shifts: 9:00 am-noon and noon-4:00 pm. If you are interested in working either shift (or both) please email nbcert@nbfd.net.
