Friends Present Gift of $116,377.

The Friends of the Library presented City and Library officials with a check for $116,377 at the Newport Beach City Council meeting on Tuesday, November 27.

               Friends of the Library President Amy Hunt and Friends Bookstore Manager Wendy Frankel made the presentation, noting that it was “Giving Tuesday” and an appropriate for their gift to the Library.  Frankel said, “We are definitely a Giving Organization. Our 100 plus volunteers work over 12,000 hours a year in support of Newport Beach Libraries. Some of our volunteers have been with the bookstore over 20 years. Today we are presenting a check to the new Corona del Mar Branch Library in the sum of $116, 377. 21 bringing our grand total this year to $296,377.21.”

               According to Library Director, Tim Hetherton, “The Friends of the Library have a long history of support for the Library and their hard work and generous contributions assure the continuation of the excellent services that the City already supports.  This gift will provide funding for the opening day collection and the reading porch furniture at the Corona del Mar Branch Library.”

               The Friends of the Library Bookstore, in addition to quarterly book sales, generates funds year-round for children programs, summer reading materials, furnishings, services and collections.  The Friends Bookstore is located inside the Central Library at 1000 Avocado Avenue, Newport Beach. Donations of used books are always welcome.
