Newport Beach has achieved a new milestone in its proactive floodplain management efforts. On October 1, 2024 our Community Rating System classification with FEMA will upgrade from Class 7 to Class 6.
The upgraded class rating translates to an additional 5% reduction in flood insurance premiums for all residents.
This improvement was made possible through a combination of public outreach, higher regulatory standards, open space preservation, and stormwater management. Residents in flood hazard zones have earned a total discount of 20% on their flood insurance. Residents in low risk zones have a total discount of 10% on their flood insurance.
