#FlashbackFriday
Wade No Longer! Dive into this purr-fect story from 2022 that's sure to make your Friday feel fabulous! Back in 2022, an Animal Control Officer was dispatched for a cat stuck on a little island of trash and debris in the middle of a flood control channel. ACO Supervisor Ott put on his wading boots and went into the channel to retrieve the cat. Once rescued and taken to the Newport Beach Shelter, Felix (yep, we named him!), flourished and was adopted. Remember, every pet deserves a loving home, and sometimes, it takes a little adventure to find where they truly belong. Happy Feel-Good Friday, everyone! #FlashbackFriday

Picture this: You're cruising too fast through Newport Beach on your motorcycle, feeling the ocean breeze, and racing your friend. And then … whoop whoop, it's the sound of the police! You've just been pulled over for speeding and street racing, and instead of frustration, you choose a moment of levity - snapping a selfie as your citation is issued. Please drive safe and obey the speed limit laws and rules of the road.

As we observe National Police Week, the Newport Beach Police Department solemnly remembers and honors the brave officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their courage, service, and dedication to protecting our community will never be forgotten. Roll Call for Our Fallen Heroes: Officer John C. Marshall, EOW 9/29/1962 Officer Robert J. Henry, EOW 4/13/1995 Sergeant Steven D. Van Horn, EOW 11/16/1997 This week, we reflect on the sacrifices made by these valiant officers and all others who have laid down their lives in the line of duty. We honor their memory by continuing to uphold the values they embodied: courage, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to serve and protect.

On Thursday, May 9, 2024, the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) organization held a ceremony to recognize Orange County Officers and Prosecutors for their commitment to getting impaired drivers off the road in 2023. Just in 2023, Orange County Officers and Deputy Sheriffs made nearly 4,000 DUI/DUID arrests, no doubted saving hundreds of lives and making our roads safer. Our very own Officer Granger, Officer Torres and Officer Wong (not pictured) were recognized for their outstanding work in making over 25 DUI arrests each last year. Stay alive, don’t drink and drive. Thank you to the Office of Traffic Safety for the funding that allows us to do this very important work, as well as the MADD organization for recognizing our officer’s hard work.

Please join us in congratulating Dispatcher Supervisor Brandy Banks on her graduation from the Civilian Leadership Institute! CLI is a comprehensive five-month leadership program designed specifically for civilian, public safety employees who are supervisors/managers or aspiring to become a supervisor or manager, working for municipal, state or government agencies. The goal of the Civilian Leadership Institute is to provide participants the opportunity to develop skills and strategies to become engaging and effective leaders in their organization. “I realized that I have found more patience in the people and things that I cannot change. I have taken steps outside my Dispatch Center to learn more about my Department and Law Enforcement as a whole, to see how I can better contribute to it.” “Because of this class, I have taken, and will continue to take, steps to improve upon myself in my both my leadership position at work, and the role that I play in my family at home.” - Dispatch Supervisor Banks
