It's 8:45 on a Tuesday night; where's the best place to hang out? Not illegally parked in a red zone in Newport Beach! On March 5, 2024, NBPD officers observed two vehicles illegally parked in a designated red zone. Their vigilance and proactive approach led to a stop that revealed much more than simple parking violations. Upon investigating, the officers encountered five individuals associated with the vehicles. The situation escalated from a routine check to a more complex investigation, which resulted in the arrest of three male subjects. Things took a serious turn with the discovery of a gun. It's a reminder of the potential dangers our officers face even in what seems like “routine” stops. Two suspects were arrested for possession of a firearm. To round off the night, another male subject was found to be enjoying his evening a little too much, leading to an arrest for public intoxication. This incident is a reminder of the complexities hidden behind what may initially appear as minor infringements. Our officers are trained to peel back the layers of each situation, revealing and addressing any underlying issues. It's their readiness and dedication that keep our streets safer, one stop at a time.

This rigorous training program equips our officers with the skills and knowledge necessary to respond swiftly and effectively to active shooter situations. During the training, officers participate in realistic, high-intensity drills that simulate various active shooter scenarios, allowing them to practice critical decision-making under stress. Training also covers advanced tactical maneuvers, including room clearing, rapid deployment, and coordinated team movements to neutralize threats and ensure civilian safety.

Wade No Longer! Dive into this purr-fect story from 2022 that's sure to make your Friday feel fabulous! Back in 2022, an Animal Control Officer was dispatched for a cat stuck on a little island of trash and debris in the middle of a flood control channel. ACO Supervisor Ott put on his wading boots and went into the channel to retrieve the cat. Once rescued and taken to the Newport Beach Shelter, Felix (yep, we named him!), flourished and was adopted. Remember, every pet deserves a loving home, and sometimes, it takes a little adventure to find where they truly belong. Happy Feel-Good Friday, everyone! #FlashbackFriday

Picture this: You're cruising too fast through Newport Beach on your motorcycle, feeling the ocean breeze, and racing your friend. And then … whoop whoop, it's the sound of the police! You've just been pulled over for speeding and street racing, and instead of frustration, you choose a moment of levity - snapping a selfie as your citation is issued. Please drive safe and obey the speed limit laws and rules of the road.
