Don Quixote for Kids

Saturday, March 25, 12 p.m., Civic Center Green

Join the gallant Don Quixote on his knightly quests across old-world Spain in Festival Ballet Theatre’s shortened rendition of this beloved ballet, based on the novel by Miguel Cervantes.

The Don Quixote ballet is an adventurous introduction to Spanish literature, music, culture, and history. Bring a picnic and your beach chairs for this special spring event. No alcohol is permitted. Parking and admission are free. This outdoor performance is supported by the City Arts Commission and will be held on the Civic Green.

Sunday, April 23, 3 p.m., Central Library Friends Room Los Angeles-based Helix Collective performs a high-energy, out-of-the-box mix of world classical and rock n’ roll. The flexible ensemble includes flute/piccolo/alto flute, oboe/English horn, cello, piano and percussion.Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Ryan Whyman, Piano

Ryan Whyman is a gifted pianist and composer with a diverse array of influences. At age 6 he began studying classical piano with world renowned Sofia Zukerman and developed a passion for improvisation from an early age. As Ryan grew older, his classical piano skills quickly expanded into the jazz realm, as well as the realms of pop, rock, and assorted other genres. His musicianship and versatility has led playing regularly at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, performing in a production of Les Miserábles in the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts in Anchorage, Alaska, playing in ensembles of all shapes and sizes around Southern California, and many other opportunities. 

Ryan will be accompanied by an ensemble of violin and cello.

Sunday Musicales at the Central Library are free and open to the public. Seating is first come, first served, limited by room capacity of 200.  Funding is graciously donated by the Friends of the Library.
