Department Overview:

Public Works delivers services and infrastructure to enhance quality of life in Newport Beach.  Through our project delivery team of engineers, support staff and consultants, we do this while managing established schedules and budgets to achieve high quality standards at the best possible value.

The Department is structured into three branches totaling five divisions:

  • Engineering Services
    • Capital Project Delivery
    • Water Quality and Environmental Services
    • Transportation and Development Services
  • Harbor Resources
  • Administration

Engineering Services provides expertise relating to traffic operations, transportation management, water quality and environmental interest, and design and construction management for the City’s capital improvement program.  Additionally, Engineering Services provides technical guidance in the Permit Center to help customers with their work in the public right-of-way.

Harbor Resources oversees resources and activities in Newport Harbor and Upper Newport Bay for life, recreation and commerce.

Administration provides leadership and strategic planning for the department.  Core functions include legal, financial, administrative, and records management.
