Transportation Division is responsible for traffic signal operations and maintenance, transportation management, traffic marking and signage throughout the City. 

 

Our Division Services includes:

SB 743 VEHICLE MILES TRAVELED METHODOLOGY - COUNCIL POLICY K-3  

The State of California requires cities to analyze land development and transportation projects using Vehicle Miles Traveled as the metric for impacts in all California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) documents, replacing the previous metric of vehicular delay or level-of-service (LOS). The City has developed a methodology to complete the updated transportation analysis under CEQA guidelines. View Here

MARINERS/DOVER SHORES TRAFFIC CALMING STUDY

The Public Works Department's Traffic Engineering staff contracted with RK Engineering Group to conduct a comprehensive independent review of the Mariners/Dover Shores neighborhood. The Neighborhood Study can be viewed here.

On Thursday, November 28, 2018, The City met with residents for the first town hall meeting to obtain resident feedback regarding traffic related concerns within the study area/community.  Topics include the study area and feedback.  The presentation for the meeting can be viewed here.

Then on Thursday, May 2, 2019, The City met with residents for the second town hall meeting to discuss the traffic speed and volume data that was collected throughout the neighborhood, and to get feedback from the community relating to preliminary findings.  The presentation for this meeting can be viewed here.

Most recently, on Thursday, September 12, 2019, The City met with residents for the third town hall meeting to discuss preliminary conceptual improvements with the community. This presentation includes the locations of the conceptual improvements as well as the next steps for the study process. and can be viewed here.

BALBOA PENINSULA CROSSWALK STUDY

The Public Works Department's Traffic Engineering staff contracted with Albert Grover and Associates to conduct a comprehensive independent review of 38 controlled crosswalks on the Balboa Peninsula. The Crosswalk Study can be viewed here.

NEWPORT HEIGHTS NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOL TRAFFIC STUDY

The Public Works Department's Traffic Engineering staff contracted with Kimley Horn to conduct a comprehensive independent review of the school activities and traffic in Newport Heights. The final Newport Heights Neighborhood School Traffic Study can be viewed here.
