The Newport Beach Fire Department and Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce will host a Disaster Preparedness and Green on Green ECO expo on Saturday, September 8 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Newport Beach Civic Center. This will be the 10th annual Disaster Preparedness Expo, held in conjunction with National Preparedness Month. The expos are free and open to the public and there is plenty of free parking.
The will be free electronics recycling and document shredding, exhibit booths and educational displays. Community members can learn about the City's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program, how to build a disaster supply kit, hands-only CPR, and information about the Police Department's Neighborhood Watch program.
Following the Expo, the Newport Beach Public Library is hosting a presentation from Dr. Lucy Jones, which starts at 2 p.m. in the Central Library Friends room (right down from the expo). Dr. Jones will be discussing her new book "The Big Ones." This event is generously funded by the Friends of the Library. Admission is free. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Dr. Jones books will be available for purchase and signing as well.
