Many Newport Beach citizens volunteer their time to assist and advise the City Council on issues facing the legislative body. Service on City Boards, Commissions and Committees is one of the principal means by which citizens can participate in their local government. The City Council is always looking for qualified electors of the city to serve in these capacities. Residents of Newport Beach who are interested in volunteer opportunities can apply to serve on a Board, Commission or Committee when vacancies are announced. Applications are accepted on a year-round basis. The application can be completed online or downloaded as a PDF and submitted to the City Clerk's Office, 100 Civic Center Drive, Newport Beach, CA 92660.
Pursuant to Council policy, applications are kept on file for a two-year period and when vacancies arise for the position(s) applied for, the applicants are contacted to determine availability and continued interest in serving. Applications and supporting documentation are a public record and may be posted on the internet.
NOTICE: Section 702 of the City Charter requires that members of Boards or Commissions appointed by the City Council shall be from the qualified electors of the City.
For questions or assistance, please contact the City Clerk's Office at 949-644-3005.
