Deaf-Friendly City Celebration

A few months ago, the City installed tablets at some facilities to connect the Deaf Community with on-demand, video remote interpreting services. This connection to an American Sign Language interpreter provides equal access to City services for the deaf and hard of hearing and made Newport Beach the first, LP Certified Deaf Friendly City in the United States.

On March 10, we will celebrate this achievement with Deaf Community members from Newport Beach and Southern California, along with the software provider The Language People, LLC. The event is from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Marina Park, 1600 W. Balboa Boulevard, CA 92663.

About the Language People
Language People recently installed its proprietary video remote interpreting technology at several City facilities. This revolutionary technology allows the deaf and hard of hearing to communicate in American Sign Language through a video remote interpreter. Language People staff will be on hand to demonstrate its technology.
