RUNNING FOR CITY COUNCIL

General Municipal Elections are held the first Tuesday after the first Monday
of November in each even-numbered year

Pursuant to Section 401 of the City Charter, no person shall be eligible to hold office as a member of the City Council unless he or she is, and shall have been for at least thirty (30) days immediately preceding nomination or appointment, a registered elector of the District from which he or she is nominated or appointed, and for at least thirty (30) days immediately preceding his or her election or appointment, a registered elector of the City. Councilmembers are elected for terms of four years and are limited to two consecutive terms.

The next scheduled Newport Beach General Municipal Election for the election of Councilmembers representing Districts 2, 5, and 7 will be November 5, 2024. Please click here to verify your Council District.

The Nomination Period opens in July 2024.  The required forms will not be available until that time and include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Nomination Petition (must be signed by at least 20, but not more than 30, registered voters from the District he or she is nominated);
• Conflict of Interest Disclosure Statement; and
• Campaign Finance Disclosure Statements.

 CURRENT CONTRIBUTION LIMIT:
Pursuant to Chapter 1.25 of the Newport Beach Municipal Code,
the contribution limit is $1,400, effective July 1, 2023.
