Election Information
General Municipal Elections are conducted in the City of Newport Beach in November of even-numbered years. The next General Municipal Election is scheduled to take place on November 4, 2026, for purposes of filling seats on the City Council for a four-year term.

RUNNING FOR CITY COUNCIL
November 3, 2026 General Municipal election for Councilmembers in Districts 1, 3, 4 & 6. Please click here to verify your Council District.
Pursuant to Section 401 of the City Charter, no person shall be eligible to hold office as a member of the City Council unless he or she is, and shall have been for at least thirty (30) days immediately preceding nomination or appointment, a registered elector of the District from which he or she is nominated or appointed, and for at least thirty (30) days immediately preceding his or her election or appointment, a registered elector of the City.
Councilmembers are elected for terms of four years and are limited to two consecutive terms.
NOMINATION PERIOD
The Nomination Period opens on July 13, 2026, and closes at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026. The required forms will only be available during that time and include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Nomination Petition (must be signed by at least 20, but not more than 30, registered voters from the District he or she is nominated);
- Conflict of Interest Disclosure Statement; and
- Campaign Finance Disclosure Statements.
CURRENT CONTRIBUTION LIMIT:
Pursuant to Chapter 1.25 of the Newport Beach Municipal Code,
the contribution limit is $1,500, effective July 1, 2025.
