Empowering Businesses to Prepare, Respond, and Recover

The Newport Beach Fire Department’s BERT Course equips local businesses and organizations with the skills and confidence to respond effectively during emergencies. This hands-on course blends classroom instruction with practical exercises, ensuring participants are ready to act when it matters most.

Through BERT, you will learn to:

  •  Identify and mitigate workplace hazards

  •  Execute Emergency Procedures (evacuation, lockdown, shelter-in-place)

  •  Provide basic medical aid (CPR, AED, Bleeding Control)

  •  Operate within the Incident Command System (ICS)

  •  Communicate effectively during crisis situations

  •  Support post-incident recovery and continuity efforts

Why BERT?
Emergencies can strike at any time—earthquakes, fires, medical incidents, or other crises. A prepared workplace protects employees, customers, and operations. The BERT program builds a culture of safety and resilience in your business.

Program Details:

  • Duration: 4–5 hours (classroom and hands-on training)

  • Cost: Free to local businesses (Donations encouraged to support community preparedness)

  • Eligibility: Open to local business owners, managers, and employees

  • Location: Newport Beach Fire Department training facilities or on-site at your business
