Assembly Bill 211 amends the Government Code to mandate that local agencies, through ordinance, designate Moderate, High, and Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones within their jurisdiction. In addition, Senate Bill 63 requires local agencies to make Fire Hazard Severity Zone maps available to the public for review within 30 days of transmittal.

On March 24, 2025, The OSFM issued the 2025 Recommended Local Responsibility Area (LRA) FHSZ maps for the City of Newport Beach.

LRA 2025 FHSZ Map Changes

Under State Law, Government Code Section 51179 (b)(3), a local agency SHALL NOT decrease the level of the LRA FHSZ recommended by the OSFM. A local agency can make additions to or increase the level of the LRA FHSZ recommended by the OSFM.
