PUBLIC NOTICE

City Council will be considering an ordinance to adopt these maps at a future City Council Meeting.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on October 26, 2011, the City of Newport Beach received the Local Responsibility Area (LRA) map showing the Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones (VHFHSZ) for the City of Newport Beach per Government Code Section 51178.

Senate Bill 1595 became law on January 1, 2009, and amended Government Code Section 51175 which required the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF) to identify and classify fire hazards in the Local Responsibility Area (LRA). This classification is the identification of Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones (VHFHSZ) shown on maps distributed to cities and counties by CDF. Local Responsibility Areas are incorporated cities where land use and planning decisions are the responsibility of the local governing bodies. This law will require landowners whose land is located in a VHFHSZ to provide a minimum 100’ defensible space from an occupied dwelling or structure. The law will also require new structures or additions to comply with Chapter 7A of the California Building Code and make it mandatory for a transferor of real property that is located within a VHFHSZ zone to disclose to any prospective transferee the fact that the property is located within a VHFHSZ and is subject to the requirements of Government Code Section 51182. State law requires the City to adopt the State Map with any modifications it deems necessary.

This notice is provided pursuant to Government Code Section 51178.5 and requires the City of Newport Beach to make this information available for view in a format that is understandable and accessible to the general public.
