Fluoridation
FLUORIDATION
The City of Newport Beach does not add any fluoride to our water system. Groundwater, which makes up 80-85% of our drinking water usually contains low levels of naturally occurring fluoride. The remaining 15-20% of our drinking water comes from Metropolitan Water District, (MWD) coming from either northern California or the Colorado River. In December 2007, MWD began adding fluoride to drinking water to help prevent tooth decay. Fluoride levels in drinking water are regulated under California state laws and regulations.
