Tenant Roster Information Program (TRIP)
Background
City License Inspectors visit commercial locations to ensure compliance with the City's Municipal Code Chapter 5.04, which requires anyone conducting business in the City to have a current business license. The purpose of these inspections is to ensure all businesses have a current Business Tax Certificate and to notify new businesses of the requirement.
The on-site inspections include all commercial locations and often involve personal visits to businesses that do not appear in the City’s database of registered businesses. On average, 90% of the businesses contacted are already in compliance with City ordinances. We invite Property Management Companies with properties in Newport Beach and executive offices in the City to share in a cooperative program with the City of Newport Beach. By providing a list of tenants to the City, the License Inspectors can verify license status in City Hall rather than conducting disruptive suite-to-suite visits in which 90% of those contacted are already licensed. The Inspectors will send notices via US Mail to those identified as not having a license in lieu of making the company obtain a license on the spot.
To assist your clients in complying with City requirements, you may register for the TRIP program by emailing the Business License Section at RevenueHelp@newportbeachca.gov or by calling 949-644-3148 to register.
