On July 29, 2023 at 6:26 a.m., the Newport Beach Police Department dispatch center received several 911 calls regarding a traffic collision in the area of Jamboree Road and University Drive. Officers arrived on scene and found a single vehicle had collided with a tree and caught fire. The driver was pulled from the vehicle by responding Newport Beach Police officers and transported by the Newport Beach Fire Department to a local trauma center for medical treatment.
The driver of the vehicle (and the sole occupant) suffered critical injuries as a result of the collision and remains in critical condition. The driver is an adult male and his identity has yet to be determined.
