Nothing More to Tell by Karen McManus

Review by Stevie

nothing more to tell book cover

In the book Nothing More To Tell by Karen McManus, the main character Brynn enrolled back into Saint Ambrose school after leaving years ago due to her favorite teacher's shocking murder. After Brynn moved back to the Saint Ambrose area, she got an internship at a true-crime show which inspired her to solve the case of her favorite teacher, Mr. Larkin who was unexpectedly murdered. To help solve this case is Brynn’s ex-best friend, Tripp Talbot, who also loved Mr. Larkin. Brynn and Trip were the first people to find Mr. Larkin’s dead body and were always wondering who was the sick person that killed their beloved teacher. Throughout the story, Brynn tries to solve the case, but also finds shocking clues and secrets along the way.

I recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of Karen McManus because this book is just like her other classics like One of Us Is Lying and Two Can Keep a Secret. Even though this book may not be my favorite one, it is still pretty good. If you are a mystery lover, I definitely recommend this book to you. It goes into great detail between Brynn and Tripp and often switches off perspectives between the two characters which really shows the emotion between them and what’s going on all around. It also goes into more detail of their life at home, their family and their friends. I also recommend this book because there are many surprising twists and turns that you do not expect. When you think you know who did it, something else pops up which switches your opinion and makes the mystery that much harder to solve. You easily make connections with the character you love and are ready to blame the characters you hate, which shows just how well this book was written to get you to care about the characters that much.

As good as the mystery was, it did get boring and confusing at times. Throughout the book there were new characters introduced that had major roles in the book but we didn’t really get introduced to them or know anything about them which made it get confusing during specific points. Beside those flaws, the overall book was great. I really liked the plot along with the mystery and all the twists and turns the book had made it very entertaining. I do recommend this author because from all the mystery books I have read, she writes the best ones. I love the way she writes with multiple perspectives. She always gives great detail with the characters' lives and their perspective in the mystery and who did it. I really like how one chapter leaves off with a cliffhanger, and then the other perspective starts the new chapter right where the cliffhanger left off but just in a different perspective. Overall, I give this book an 8 out of 10 and I do highly recommend it to any mystery lover who loves a lot of twists and turns.
