NBPL is pleased to present California Poet Laureate, Lee Herrick.
Lee Herrick was born in South Korea, adopted at ten months of age, and raised in California. He is the 10th California Poet Laureate, and the first Asian American to serve in the role. He grew up in a loving family, but still experiencing racism at school, and seeing it in the media. His experiences have shaped his thinking, his teaching, and his poetry.
Lee Herrick believes "there is poetry in everyone, that we are all human in terms of aspirations, fears, ideas, relationships, difficulties. Poetry speaks to all of those things in a way people I hope can find accessible."
Mr Herrick, currently serving a two-year term as California's Poet Laureate, will share some of his work and talk about the value of poetry and creative expression.
