Chief Jeff Boyles' fire service career spans well over 20 years. He was sworn in as fire chief in August 2019. He began his career in the fire service as a full-time firefighter for the San Bernardino County Fire Department.
Jeff started his career with Newport Beach in February 2000 and has steadily climbed the ladder serving in various capacities including firefighter, firefighter paramedic, fire captain, battalion chief, department training chief, assistant chief and serving on special assignments as an arson investigator and an urban search and rescue team member.
Apart from his fire service, Jeff has coached or managed 21-youth baseball teams and six Pop Warner football teams. Professionally, he has served as the vice president and president of the Newport Beach Fire Association’s, president of the Orange County Training Officers, Orange County area director to Cal Chief’s, and co-chair of the Orange County EMS Committee. He currently serves as the vice president for Speak Up Newport, is a board of directors member for Leadership Tomorrow, an advisory board member for the Newport Beach 1/1 Marines Foundation, and is the treasurer for the Orange County Fire Chiefs Association.
Jeff has an associate degree in Fire Technology and Paramedicine, a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration with a Minor in Psychology, and a Master of Public Administration from Long Beach State University. Jeff has trained in Incident Management at Texas A&M and the National Fire Academy in Emmittsburg, Maryland. He is a state certified instructor and a strike team leader.
Jeff likes to say he was born into a life of fire service. His father became fire chief just six months before he was born. Jeff resides in Huntington Beach with his wife and two sons.
