The City tests its Outdoor Emergency Notification System on the first Friday of every month at 12 p.m. The test is for a brief period of time to ensure that the system is in good working order. When activated for actual emergency notifications, the sirens will sound for an extended period of time.
The system consists of three emergency warning sirens that are connected to a control panel located at the Newport Beach Police Department. Each siren is approximately four feet high and is mounted on a blue, 50-foot pole. The sirens have been strategically placed in order for emergency signals to be heard in West Newport, along the Balboa Peninsula, and at Big Corona Beach.
