The City tests its Outdoor Emergency Notification System on the first Friday of every month at 12 p.m. for a brief period of time at a reduced sound level. When activated for actual emergency notifications, the sirens will sound for an extended time at a much higher sound level.
The system consists of three emergency warning sirens that are connected to a control panel located at the Newport Beach Police Department. Each siren is approximately four feet high and is mounted on a blue, 50-foot pole. The sirens have been strategically placed in order for emergency signals to be heard in West Newport, along the Balboa Peninsula, and at Big Corona Beach.
