Newport Beach firefighters are working with the Stephen Siller - Tunnel to Towers Foundation to plan and host a 5K run on Sunday, September 16 at the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort. Check-in begins at 7 a.m. and the 5K run begins at 8 a.m.
Half of the event proceeds will go toward "Building for America's Bravest", a joint venture between the Stephen Siller Foundation and the Gary Sinise Foundation. The mission is to construct custom, "smart" homes for severely wounded combat veterans.
The other half of the proceeds will be given to the First Battalion, First Marines Foundation, a Newport Beach-based, non-profit organization that supports the city's adopted battalion, the 1/1 Marines. The battalion is currently deployed in Afghanistan.
Registration is $40 per participant ages 12 and over. Active duty military and members of their families can register for $20. Please go to www.t2trun/newportbeach to sign up.
