Earthquake & Tsunami Awareness Workshop

Earthquake and Tsunami Awareness Workshop

March 11, 2013 marks the second anniversary of the Japan catastrophic earthquake and tsunami that killed nearly 20,000 people and triggered the country's worst nuclear disaster. The City of Newport Beach is a coastal community which has more than 40,000 residents that live in the pre-identified tsunami inundation area. Since 2004, the Fire Dept. Disaster Preparedness Division has been actively planning and preparing for this low probability high consequence event.  The city has been recognized by the National Weather Service as a Tsunami Ready Community due to the numerous planning efforts.

Residents are invited to attend this free workshop to learn new information about the impacts of earthquakes and tsunamis and how they can prepare themselves and their neighborhoods.

No registration is necessary.  For more information, call 949-644-3112 or email nbcert@nbfd.net.
